Public meeting on school strengths, challenges aims to fine-tune search for next superintendent

The School Board is inviting parents and other interested residents to a public meeting with Jackie Roy, superintendent search consultant, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, in the Town Hall chamber.

Roy and the board will ask attendants about the strengths of Cape Elizabeth schools, as well as issues and challenges. The information will help determine how the board describes the leader it is seeking, as well as the long-term needs of Cape Elizabeth schools.

The board is looking to hire a superintendent to succeed Alan Hawkins, who will retire at the end of December. In November the board conducted a communitywide survey on the attributes of a new superintendent.

Dr. Ken Murphy, longtime superintendent for Yarmouth schools, will serve as interim superintendent from Jan. 1, 2011 to the end of the school year.

Roy is a consultant with J.A Roy Associates in Dennisport, Mass. Roy was appointed to assist in the superintendent search by the board on Nov. 30.
