School Board expected to confirm next superintendent at special morning meeting June 1

The School Board is expected to confirm its next superintendent at a special business meeting 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in the Town Hall chamber.

The name of the board's choice has not been released. An executive session to discuss the superintendent search is scheduled before the meeting, at 7:30 a.m. in the William H. Jordan Conference Room, also at Town Hall.

The board has held two rounds of applications during the last six months to search for a successor to Alan Hawkins, who retired in December 2010. Ken Murphy, former superintendent of Yarmouth schools, has been serving as interim superintendent for Cape Elizabeth since January.

Mary Townsend, board chair, said in a press release, “The board was very pleased with the pool of candidates who applied this round, and we are confident that we have found an exceptional leader for Cape Elizabeth. We look forward to sharing the news with our staff, students, and greater community.”
