Solid waste, recycling committee granted two-month extension for recommendations, draft report

The Solid Waste and Recycling Long Range Planning Committee will have an extra two months to submit its recommendations and draft report to the Town Council.

The council voted June 15, 2015 to extend the ad hoc committee's report deadline from June 30 to Aug. 31, 2015.

Jessica Sullivan, a town councilor who also chairs the Solid Waste and Recycling Long Range Planning Committee, said the extension will allow committee members to draft the report themselves, saving "a great deal of money", which she said will be applied to an engineering analysis.

The committee has met 11 times since it was charged in December 2014 to review recommendations from an independent engineering firm and to look at long term solutions for the handling of solid waste and recyclable materials. The committee also held a public forum and conducted a survey for public input.

At the council's meeting June 15, 2015, Sullivan said she would like to commend the committee for volunteering to take on the task of drafting the report and recommendations.
