York code-enforcement officer selected for position in Cape Elizabeth

Town Manager Michael McGovern has announced the appointment of Benjamin McDougal as the new code enforcement officer for the Town of Cape Elizabeth effective on Jan. 21, 2013.

The appointment is subject to the approval of the Town Council at a special meeting scheduled for Jan. 2, 2013 at 6:45 p.m. The meeting will be held prior to a previously scheduled workshop at 7 p.m.

McDougal is currently the code-enforcement officer for the Town of York, where he reports to the director of community development. He earlier served York as its shoreland resource officer and assistant code-enforcement officer. Prior to serving York, he worked for Sweet Associates in Falmouth, where he provided environmental consulting services including wetland delineation, assessment and permitting, septic system design and inspection, erosion and sedimentation control plans and shoreland-zone planning.

He is a resident of Scarborough and grew up in Saco.

At the council's meeting Jan. 2 he will also be appointed electrical inspector, plumbing inspector, deputy health officer and building inspector.

The Town received 40 applications for the position, said Town Manager Michael McGovern. The interview board included McGovern, Fire Chief Peter Gleeson and Assessor Matthew Sturgis.

"I believe Ben is a good fit for Cape Elizabeth as, like York, we have an extensive shoreline, varied neighborhoods and wish to have attention paid to our environmental resources," McGovern said in his announcement. "He is highly regarded in York and his mix of public and private sector experience should be an asset to our community. The interview board found him to be thoughtful, analytical and focused on customer service. We look forward to him joining us next month," McGovern said.
