Lynch ousts incumbent Watson for council seat

Challenger Mary Ann Lynch garnered the most votes in a three-way race for two Town Council seats.

Cape voters will send Lynch, and incumbent John W. McGinty, to three year terms on the council. Lynch led the council election with 696 votes, with McGinty second at 530 votes.

Incumbent Ruth McCleery Watson failed to win re-election, garnering only 385 votes.

In the election for School Board, incumbents Jennifer DeSena and Marie Prager will go back to the board for another three year term. DeSena received 788 votes; Prager, 764.

A meager 916 voters turned out for the election despite the favorable weather. Town Clerk Debra Lane said she was hoping for at least a 25 percent turnout for a municipal election -- instead the turnout was only 12.12 percent.

Those who did vote speculated that the lack of a contest may have kept most voters at home, Lane said.
