Uncontested races, light turnout hold no surprises in municipal election

The turnout was light as expected, but a patriotic group of Cape citizens did come out to re-elect three candidates to their respective seats on the Town Council and on the School Board.

Jack Roberts and Anne Swift-Kayatta, who is the current chairwoman, were both re-elected to unconstested terms on the Town Council. George Entwistle, current chairman of the School Board, was also re-elected; and newcomer Kathleen Walsh was elected to a School Board seat being vacated by Jim Rowe.

None of the races were contested.

Turnout was 259, or 3.4 percent of voters registered in Cape Elizabeth. People coming through the polls said they attributed the light turnout to the lack of contested races, said Town Clerk Debra Lane, but those who did vote said they did so because they felt it was their "patriotic duty," said Lane.
