Cape Elizabeth voters supported their own in the Nov. 2 gubernatorial election, favoring Cape Elizabeth resident and independent candidate Eliot Cutler over other party and independent hopefuls.
Unofficial results Nov. 2 show Cutler receiving 3,013 votes in Cape Elizabeth, more than twice the number of the closest challenger, Republican Paul LaPage, who garnered 1,347 votes in Cape Elizabeth. Democratic candidate Libby Mitchell received 862 votes, followed by independents Shawn Moody, 106 votes; and Kevin Scott, 16 votes.
In other news, voters elected to send State Rep. Cynthia Dill back to the State House for another term representing Dist. 121. Voters favored the Democratic incumbent with 2,652 votes over Republican challenger Eric Lusk, who received 1,892 votes, unofficial results show.
Cape Elizabeth favored Democratic candidates in other races, with Congresswoman Chellie Pingree gaining 3,080 votes in Cape Elizabeth over Republican challenger Dean Scontras. Cape voters also favored incumbent State Senator Larry Bliss, a Democrat, over Republican challenger Joe Palmieri, 2,646 votes to 2,492. Bliss represents Dist. 7, which includes Cape Elizabeth, South Portland and Scarborough.
State House Dist. 123 voters in the northern part of Cape Elizabeth favored Democrat Jane Eberle for re-election to her State House seat over challenger Jake Myrick, 445 votes to 239. Dist. 123 includes Cape Elizabeth and South Portland.
On the state referendum ballot, Cape Elizabeth does not favor a casino in Oxford County, with 3,093 voting against the referendum and 2,169 voting for it. Cape Elizabeth voters also said they favor a new charter for Cumberland County, with 2,687 voting in favor of the referendum and 1,339 voting against.
