State offers grant program for small businesses, non-profits impacted by COVID-19

The state of Maine is accepting applications from small businesses and non-profits for grants to help cover losses incurred as a result of COVID-19.

Applications to the Maine Economic Recovery Grant Program are being accepted through Sept. 9, 2020, with awards to be made in October. Gov. Janet Mills announced the program in a news release Aug. 20.

The program is backed by $200 million in Federal CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Funds.

"Many Maine businesses and non-profits have not been able to access existing sources of relief funding and so have 'fallen through the cracks' and need help in order to remain viable," according to the program description.

"The money available for these grants cannot wholly replace or repair the economic damage this pandemic has caused. Our narrow mission is to ensure that each dollar has at least a small, direct impact on supporting Maine businesses, Maine non-profit organizations, and Maine's economy."

More information, including full description, FAQ, criteria for grant funding and an online application, is available on the state's Department of Economic and Community Development
