Absentee voting underway for June 12 state primary, referendum; school budget validation

Absentee balloting is now underway for the June 12, 2018 state primary and referendum, and Cape Elizabeth school budget validation.

For the first time in the state's history, voters enrolled in the Democratic and Republican parties will rank their choices for their party's candidate for the gubernatorial election on Nov. 6. More information about ranked choice voting is available from the state Secretary of State.

All voters - whether enrolled in a political party or not - are eligible to vote on a state referendum question regarding ranked-choice voting; and, to validate the $25.4 million school budget approved by the Town Council for fiscal 2019. [news article]

Voters enrolled in the Democratic and Republican parties will also vote on primary candidates for representatives to Congress, State Senate and State House; county sheriff, district attorney and county commissioner.

Absentee balloting will take place at Town Hall, 320 Ocean House Road, during business hours Mondays 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Tuesday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. through Thursday, June 7.

The election will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at the Cape Elizabeth High School gym. Polls will be open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

All election activities, including voter registration, will move to the polls on Election Day. The town clerk and tax office will be closed that day so that staff may assist in the election.

Under Maine law, any registered voter may vote absentee until three business days before the election. You may do so in person at Town Hall, or request a ballot be sent to you by filling out an application. Download paper application
