Superintendent finalist to visit April 27

Dr. Craig King, finalist for school superintendent, will visit Cape Elizabeth on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

King is currently superintendent of Maine "Western Foothills" Regional School Unit 10, Dixfield. Previously he was principal of Mt. Ararat High School, Topsham, for nine years. Before that he served as a junior-senior high school assistant principal then principal in Mississippi. His teaching experience includes both elementary- and high-school positions internationally and in Mississippi. He also teaches education courses for the University of Maine.

King is the only candidate for superintendent who will be visiting Cape Elizabeth, School Board Chair Elizabeth Scifres announced in an email to the community April 25. The other finalist, Steven Bailey, superintendent of Central Lincoln County School System/Alternative Organizational Structure 93, Damariscotta, has withdrawn himself from consideration, Scifres said.

"Although we now have one candidate, this visit is not a formality," Scifres said. "Wednesday will be a day-long interview with various stakeholder groups. The board will be gathering feedback from everyone with whom he meets," she said.

The visit will begin at Town Hall, where King will meet with central office administrators and staff, as well as the town manager and members of the Town Council. From there he will meet with parents, representatives of the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation and leadership from all three school parent associations.

He will meet staff and students at all three schools, and participate in student-led tours where possible, before meeting with school and department administrators. He will end his day with the School Board.

"The candidate's visit to Cape Elizabeth is an important part of the search process. The School Board thanks everyone who participates in this district visit and values all input it receives," Scifres said.

The School Board began its superintendent search in January following current superintendent Meredith Nadeau's announcement that she accepted a position as head of the New Market N.H. school district beginning July 1, 2016.
