Committee seeks pictures, other documentation of Spurwink Church history

As the work of the Spurwink Church Study Committee continues, the committee invites residents to share historical pictures, articles, or any other information regarding the history of the Spurwink Church.

The committee, an ad-hoc committee formed by the Town Council this past February, is charged with making recommendations regarding the condition of the historic church, funding options for a rehabilitation plan, and recommendations on the town's ownership and responsibility of the church.

Following several meetings, the committee's priorities include structural soundness; and foundation, exterior and interior rehabilitation. Evaluation from an engineering view continues. Local and state organizations specializing in the restoration and rehabilitation of historical structures are being consulted.

Structural soundness and historical significance both factor into the town's ultimate use of the facility.

Anyone with photographs, articles or other information regarding the church's history is invited to contact Debra Lane, assistant town manager, 799-7665, email ceclerk@maine.rr.com
