9-1-1 Emergency Response
Since 2001, the Town of Cape Elizabeth has been connected to the Emergency 9-1-1 System. This system allows tracking of the phone number and address from which the call was placed.
Emergency calls (9-1-1) are routed to a Portland dispatcher through the regional Public Safety Answering Point in Portland, and relayed to appropriate Cape Elizabeth police, fire and/or emergency medical responders.
Cape Elizabeth Police Officers are all certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Police Officers (EMTs) respond to all medical emergencies and are fully qualified to render first aid and life support pending arrival of rescue personnel. Should you require medical assistance please call the emergency number 9-1-1.
Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 are stationed at Town Center Station on Jorday Way. They have 30 paid on-call members. The Rescue can provide care up to the Paramedic Level, the greatest amount of pre-hospital care provided in the State of Maine, and must meet state training and license requirements. They respond to over 450 calls for emergency medical care each year. The Rescue business meeting is held on the third Monday of each month and they train the fourth Wednesday of each month
For non-emergencies, a clerk is on duty at the Cape Elizabeth Public Safety Building, 325 Ocean House Road, from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. seven days a week. After 4 p.m., non-emergency calls are routed to a Portland dispatcher.
