Floodplain Assistance

FLOODPLAIN ASSISTANCE

Cape Elizabeth is proud to be a community that can help provide information, guidance, and discounted flood insurance rates to its residents. Flood hazard permits and information is managed by the Code Enforcement Office. By being proactive with floodplain management resources and practices, residents can receive a discount on flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

National Flood Insurance Program:

NFIP provides flood insurance to property owners, renters, and businesses, and this coverage helps them recover faster when floodwaters recede.

The program helps communities participating in or interested in joining the NFIP by providing technical information, floodplain maps, and model ordinances.

Community Rating System:

The more a community does toward good floodplain management, the more points it can earn toward reducing its citizens' flood insurance premiums. For each 500 points earned, the community qualifies for a 5% reduction in the premiums paid by its citizens who purchase flood insurance.

In 2015 Cape Elizabeth was awarded a Class 8 rating, with 1276 credit points.

Flood Hazard Development Permit:

For development in the floodplain, flood hazard permits must be obtained. Form 60.3(e) must be completed and submitted to the code enforcement officer with all required supporting documentation.

For more information, please Contact the Code Enforcement Office.
