Wastewater Treatment Facility
The Portland Water District owns and maintains a wastewater treatment facility on Spurwink Avenue in Cape Elizabeth to serve its southern Cape system. With 3,100 customers served, it is the third largest facility operated by the Portland Water District. It has an average flow rate of 520,000 gallons per day, with a peak rate of 1.7 million gallons.
It was built in 1987 and, along with 11 pump stations, serves the southern Cape Elizabeth neighborhoods as well as the Town Center. (Information from the Portland Water District website - see link to request a tour of this facility)
Wastewater from the northern Cape system is carried for treatment to the City of South Portland facility.
