General Assistance

The Town of Cape Elizabeth administers a welfare/general assistance program that provides confidential financial assistance to residents who are having difficulty meeting basic needs for housing, utilities, food, medications etc.

The program is funded by local property taxes with a 50% reimbursement from the State of Maine.

The Town contracts with The Opportunity Alliance (TOA), the regional community action agency, in assisting applicants. A social worker from TOA meets with applicants between 9 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and Fridays, beginning April 1, 2014. To schedule an appointment, please call the Town Hall at 207-799-7665. For emergencies only, nights and weekends call 207-807-2055.
